Hello all.
So i had a new HDD arrive yesterday (my old one was couple years old)

This is the new HDD in question
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07H2RR55Q?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

I installed the new drive in my gaming PC & installed a new copy of Windows via USB.

Excited for the new space i have i started to install drivers, software ect but something didn't feel right with windows it felt or it feels sluggish like i go to open settings (where wi does update ect is) & it takes a good 5-10 seconds to load.

Is there something in the bios i need to look at fornthe new HDD?

My Rig is as follows

ROG Strix X570-F Motherboard
AMD ryzen 7 3700x CPU
Radeon RX 6700XT 16gb GPU
Corsair RM750X PSU
16GB Ballistixs Ram

Anything else just ask

THANK YOU ALL

EDIT: Might have found the reason . Razer Synapse. will keep a close eye but please keep with the suggestions

I'll get SSD then
Is my current drive worth keeping to install games on it tho?
I play some games which is installed via HDD just that games load slow that's it, you can the use HDD for loading large programs, and use the SDD for windows and other important programs. But generally games in SDD is faster
And Regarding the smoothness while opening settings or a thing, even a bug riddled windows copy might be a problem, even a update causes it sometimes, HDD is slow but it does not mean that it should take 10 seconds to just open a settings page

SMR Drive please explain as i have not come across a SMR Drive. i thought is was a normal HDD

It IS an HDD alright, SMR which stands for Shingled Magnetic Recording is a data recording technology which allows more data to be crammed into the drive, actually on the platters.

It's better to be used for data storage and archiving purposes where there's not much daily/conctant writing done on it.

As advised above I'd suggest using an SSD as the OS drive.

Thanks, guess i'll wait till i get paid again to get a SSD & then use this current drive to install my games on

Apart from HDD models that are recommended by the manufacturer for other purposes such as archiving (write once read later) or recording CCTV surrveillance and similar purposes (constant daily writing) - which are mind you OK for any OS too - any CMR HDD drive is OK for home/office use with Windows for example.

I'd say find best deal with best warranty.

Not a great SSD this one. Either get a Cruicial BX500 or you can also consider M.2 NVMe SSDs. Samsung makes good SSDs both SATA and M.2 NVMe.

Although if that's your intended budget you would need to buy a smaller M.2 NVMe drive in terms of capacity. Not sure about prices but I think a quality 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD should go for around $120 more or less.

The samsung 860 evo is £62 & the Crucial MX500 is £47
