Installed WP10 10536 on ATIV S, worked but store and settings apps not downloaded, tried hard reset, now infinite cogs to sad

Hi,
I tried updating my phone to Windows Phone 10 build 10536 and it worked but the settings and store apps were not installed so I couldn't log into my microsoft account to download backup and I couldn't download settings as the store wasnt installed.

I tried a soft reset - that didn't work.
I tried a hard reset - that caused the phone to start restoring, I got the cogs, they got to 1/3 of the way then a sad face ( :-( ) came up and the phone restarts and goes to BSOD.
I tried to hard reset again but got the same results.
Have tried this multiple times but nothing works and still results in BSOD.
The phone is a Samsung ATIV S and before it had WP8.1 and was on slow mode in the insider update.
I have tried windows phone recovery but that doesnt have an option for Samsung.
