I have problem with my Asus z97 pro motherboard. The usb 3.0 do not work. This is REALLY frustrating. Someone suggested installing asmedia drivers instead of the standard installed driver which is: Intel(r) usb 3.0 extensible host controller. Now my usb's don't work at all. I can't use the keyboard or mouse and I can't undo what i've done. Can someone help me?

Solution

Yes but System restore in win 10 only records the dates of the last windows update or potentially driver updates. Its not as useful as it used to be, its actually turned off by default in win 10 so relying on it isn't always a good idea.

this shows choices available in startup options: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-advanced-startup-options-boot-windows-10-a.html

do the USB 2 slots work? BIOS should work if you use the black slots.

What version of windows are you running? If 10, do you have the installer? Can get it here: Win 10 media creation tool

If you have Win 10, F8 will not work at start up. That function is turned off in Win 10

Download that on another pc and make a installer

Now change boot order so USB or DVD are first, SSH or HDD second

you probably also need to do this as Z97 Pro will fight you to let you use USB
in the boot menu under advanced settings change the usb mode to full initialization then save and restart. this will enable all usb devices and it will boot from the usb automatically.

Now boot from installer, the mouse/kb should work in here
on second screen, choose repair this pc, not install
select troubleshoot
select advanced
select start up options
choose one of the 3 safe modes
PC will restart in safe mode, kb/mouse should still be wroking
right click start menu
select device manager from choices
find USB devices in the last choice - I was blind, I couldn't see it - which is Universal Serial Bus controllers

removing the asmedia driver should be all you need to do.

I have both those drivers installed, the intel and Asmedia one.

thanks for the suggestion i will try the media creation tool to get into safemode. Ill give an update after i'm finished. In the meantime, does anyone have a suggestion for fixing my usb 3.0? I've tried everything.

Have you got latest BIOS? And newest versions of drivers on the Asus site? https://www.asus.com/au/Motherboards/Z97PRO/HelpDesk_Download/

Did you update from a previous version or is this a fresh install? If upgrade, it might be a conflict between old and new drivers, a fresh install could fix it.
Could look in event viewer (custom views/admin events) and see if it shows any errors relating to USB

And ofcourse the next problem rises..... Is it impossible to open safe mode or what??? What kind of retard decided that this way would be usefull? I made a usb drive with the media creation tool. Everything is there except the startup options, so i cant open in safe mode. How would i do this now?

It is impossible to open safe mode in windows 10, impossible. So because of severe design flaws in windows 10, installing a wrong driver results in having to completely reinstall windows. Wauw, unbelievable.....

If you can't get to safe mode this way, then your choices of action become smaller. I think the only real answer is a reset as I cannot find a way to delete drivers using command prompt

if there is anything on PC you want to save, use: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/use-ubuntu-live-cd-to-backup-files-from-your-dead-windows-computer/
reset is in top lvl of the menu after Repair this PC

I finally got safe mode. And guess what? Mouse and keyboard don't work there either...

I wonder what it replaced when you installed those drivers, it sure did a good job as safe mode is meant to use the default drivers, generic ones that work with any PC, as far as I know. So even if you had a PS2 mouse or Keyboard, you could only use one at a time.

I would suggest you try this: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/16397-repair-install-windows-10-place-upgrade.html if your mouse worked.. sigh. I am curious what happens if you install win 10 over top of itself as I don't know if a reset is enough to fix this. Reset would be the next best choice now.

original issue is bad driver install, just want he is trying to undo."Someone suggested installing asmedia drivers instead of the standard installed driver which is: Intel(r) usb 3.0 extensible host controller. Now my usb's don't work at all"

and it was turned on by default in my windows 10 home ed. and yes all system restore has ever really done is roll back windows config issues like bad drivers
