Can I install a new HD in a HP laptop Model DV 9500 with Windows XP, when the old drive had Windows Vista installed on it. The old drive quit...GEM

Yes, you can remove the dead HDD and install a new one. You don't even need to need to disassemble the laptop; the HDD is found in a drive bay under the laptop. It uses SATA type drives. Laptop makers generally don't provide drivers for previous versions of Windows that are on the laptop so you will have to find the drivers somewhere. Recommend using Windows Vista on it to avoid driver problems.
