Hello Tom's Hardware! And Tom, whoever that is.
For the past two years that I've had my PC, I've been running on two sticks of 4GB DDR3 RAM. Yesterday I bought another two sticks of identical RAM and installed them into the two free dual-channel slots. The result was that, after being powered on for about five seconds, my PC would immediately power down. Another four seconds later, it would power up again, and repeat until I turn it off at the PSU switch.
This is my current PC build:
Motherboard: Gigabyte H77M-D3H
CPU: Intel i7-2600
PSU: Corsair 850W
RAM: G-Skill 8G (2x4GB) DDR3 1333MHz PC3-10666 CL9
Again, the new RAM I bought is identical to the RAM currently installed in the PC.
Things I've tried so far:
1. Cleaned out the DIMM slots with compressed air and a gentle horsehair brush.
2. Switched the old RAM out for the new RAM. (Issue doesn't occur)
3. Used a combination of one stick of old RAM and one stick of new RAM. (Issue doesn't occur)
4. Switched the RAM to the other two slots. (Issue doesn't occur)
5. Gotten the new RAM replaced.
So really, the issue only occurs when I use all four slots, no matter which combination of RAM I use. What could be causing this?
