I currently have an Asus STRIX Z270F with a Samsung 960 EVO 500GB connected to the M.2 slot furthest away from the CPU. I now plan on buying an additional EVO (1 TB version this time) which I plan to place in the other M.2 slot closest to the CPU.

I remember reading a while back that some motherboards cannot run M.2/PCI-E at full speed with certain configurations, so I'm a little hesitant to go ahead and buy an additional one.

So my question is: will having both M.2 SSDs installed limit their speed in any way?

Only one of the PCI-E slots is currently being used (x16 occupied by a GTX 1080 Ti). I'm likely going to SLI my 1080 Ti in the future so I also wonder if this might have any affect on speeds?

Thanks,

E

Solution
It shares lanes with the SATA ports, so no problem regarding the speed. Set in BIOS the Configuration to PCIe mode for one of them and x4 for the other. Some SATA ports will be disabled.
