Hello, I run windows 10 on both my home desktop and my laptop, I've considered dual booting with the internal drives, but would really like to be able to install Linux on my My Passport, so I can move it between the laptop and the desktop.

Is that something thats possible? or should is my only option to shrink the partition on my laptop/desktops HDD?

You can run a live version of linux to the external but you cant install a permanent version of an OS to a drive and run it on 2 different computers because the hardware is different between the 2. At best it will be unstable, at worst it wont boot at all.

Not to mention with a laptop you are completely at the mercy of the OEM bios if it will even boot from external USB.
