Installing linux on old desktop

I want to install linux. I don't know much about linux.

From what I was reading here are my specs:

Cpu intel pentium dual-core e2180
Motherboard ipibl lb
Ram 2gb not sure on what type
hard drive 400 gb
power supply hipro hp-d2537f3r


Also I have no os and I do know its a 32 bit. But my first problem is to view my bios on my screen, I have the original.
Also there are no sounds to say there is a problem when booting.

Since you only have 2GB of ram, stick to the x86 32-bit version, download ISO, burn to DVD or USB and install or run as a live system.

I agree with das_stig, Linux Mint x86 32-bit version is the absolute best choice for what you've described.

You will be very pleased with how fast the system loads and how well it runs. Makes a older computer run like it's brand new!

Nothing wrong with that suggestion. I periodically install VM's of other distros to check them out, I always end up coming back to Mint though. It has always just worked for me.

Zorin is more windowish then Linux mint is in my opinion... but the suggestion of Linux Mint 32 is a good idea, the x64 will not run all that well

Linux Lite is also sort of not too different from Mint in the way it makes the transition from Windows os more smooth because of the look and placement of menus.
