Installing M.2 SSD into laptop, where to find compatible parts?

Hi,

My sister has an MSI GF62 8RC and she wants to upgrade to an SSD. The laptop comes installed with a 1TB HDD.

I am sure that the model she has comes with a free M.2 slot, I am just wondering where I can find if parts are compatible as I am aware some motherboards are only compatible with certain M.2 sticks.

Anyone have a website where I can check or maybe even a recommendation for an M.2 SSD. Will be looking for a minimum of 250GB storage on the M.2 SSD.

has OK pictures of the M.2 slot, although the video does not add and M.2 drive. Looking at the M.2 slot key in the video, it looks like an "M" key which would support an NVME SSD rather than a SATA SSD.

I watched that video I noticed the slot and just assumed it was a SATA SSD. Isn't it worth going for an NVME SSD? Initially I was just thinking of removing the HDD and replacing it with an SSD.

Other hits when I googled "MSI GF62 8RC ssd" was pages that listed NVMe M.2 drives rather than SATA.
The manual -- https://download.msi.com/archive/mnu_exe/16JF+16JE+179F+179E_v1.0_English.zip shows the M.2 slot to be either SATA or NVMe.
NVMe will be faster. SATA will be cheaper. Either way you will need to clone the HDD to the SSD.
