Installing MCXC370 on Athlon XP

I've never installed a HSF before and wondering if anyone knows of links to any good sites w/pics to give me some idea wtf I'm trying to do! I really don't want to screw up my new XP1800.

Also, my mb is the soyo dragon+...the mb manual says it supports non-boxed CPUs but heavier fan requires a CPU support stand...is this what a "shim" is?? The MCXC is pretty heavy - I just want some pointers. I DID try and search the forum for "install", but didn't find any links or info on what a CPU support stand is.

Thanks for help - I'm anxious to start putting it together but don't really know yet what I'm doing as far as the HSF thing is.

here is a guide that is made by thermaltake...it is actually a guide to install their products, but i think that you could use it.
they even have a guide for using shims, which i think is that a "CPU support stand" is.
not sure tho...might want a second opinion on that.

you are also going to want to put some sort of thermal interface material in there to help transfer the heat in the gaps and imperfections of the cpu core, and the heatsink base....believe me, there are some...

i hope that those guides help...i think that they might because they have good pictures.

good luck, take your time, have fun, and i hope it all goes together easy, and works for you!

Those springs are supposed to keep the pressure even, and not too hard. Here's the homepage, and the frame on the side points to instructions for your HSF. It's for the MCX370, but it's the same thing, except for the copper base.
