Installing my orig. IDE HDD (as Primary) in a HP Comp/Mobo w/SATA HDD (as Secondary).

Having read MOST everything written on the subject on many websites YET am ubable to get this HP computer to boot my original IDE HDD from another older computer. Realize the SATA should be Primary, however, my desire is to firstly boot the older IDE HDD first; and, be able to access the SATA HDD secondarly.

In BIOS "yes" both drives are recognized IDE = 0; and, SATA = 1, have changed both to read Harddrive, which may be wrong based on what I've read? On saving and booting it comes back to the same screen asking "boot as normal" or "safe mode options". It will only boot when selecting the SATA HDD, while the IDE HDD is recognized in Windows OS (Control Panel/Computer).

Am being to believe it has more to do with the Motherboard, as being the screens are always HP w/options F9, F10 & F12 below. It appears this computer wants to identify itself ONLY as being a HP computer?

Have played with ALL the BIOS and CMOS options and still it won't boot from my original IDE HDD??

NOTE: The reason I want to boot the IDE is b/c the SATA language is Swedish, and I don't read/speak Swedish, even though I am an American ex-Pat residing in Sweden. Can't convert to English w/o buying Windows English OS software.

Any suggestions would be MUCH appreciated... in other words... HELP!!!

Thx! Curt

There is an option called BOOT PRIORITY in the BIOS. Make sure you have your IDE HDD as boot priority #1. Change the boot priority and I believe you will be able to boot from your IDE HDD.

Fantastic250... the sequence boot priority I had set to boot (1) IDE HDD; (2) SATA HDD; and (3) External HDD. All three are set to read Harddrive, possibly the latter two are wrong? The HP computer still won't boot the IDE HDD?? Any additional suggestions?? Anybody, feel free to chime in. . .

Read somewhere the problem may have to do with the motherboard settings, as the computer wants to identify itself as a HP Computer??

Thx! Curt

The OS (Windows) is installed on BOTH the HDD's... my older original IDE HDD, which I want to boot first runs WinXP; and, the SATA HDD (part of the HP Computer) is running WinXP Pro. The ONLY foreign objects installed are the IDE HDD and 80 wire ribbon connected to the mobo. Both HDD's are recognized in the BIOS & CMOS files; and the IDE HDD is set to boot first, however, it ONLY reverts back to the boot options page, whereas, I determine method of boot, i.e., Normal (Last completed Boot), or any of the multipe Safe Mode(s). The IDE HDD won't boot, so I hit F9 choose the SATA HDD and walla... it boots and after WinXP Pro has finished booting... I can go into the Control Panel and identify the IDE HDD and files, which is backwards to what I am trying to acomplish!

Read somnewhere about changing something on the Motherboard, but can't fine it? It was identified by three letters XXX, but can't recall what the letter were?

Any other suggestions... ANYONE, please feel free to offer your advice; and, Thx fantastik for your help and concern.

Thx! Curt
