If I upgrade from Windows Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit (my computer is 64 bit compatible), will I lose the data on my boot drive? Also, is it worth the upgrade? I have some programs incompatible with Windows 7, and the price for the upgrade is just overpriced.

Any upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit would require a re-format and clean install, so, yes, you would lose the data on your boot drive. As far as being worth it,that's up to you. I've always thought that Vista was the Windows ME of this generation. Win7 has better security and stability than Vista, as well as better driver support.

Can I avoid reformatting if I use a new drive as a boot drive?
