Dear All:

How does one install NT 4 Server onto a 4GB boot
partition on a larger than 8GB IDE drive? I can't seem
to get past the 2GB maximum, and I don't have any special
partitioning software, just the NT4 CD. Thanks.

Create the 4gb partition during setup by booting off the NT cd. Once that is
done after install is finished you will need Sp4 or higher to see the full
size of your drive.

Or use the sp4 version of atapi.sys during the install

Hi James,

I know you said you don't have any third party partitioning software but still
have a look at: http://nt4ref.zcm.com.au/bigdisk.htm It will still provide you
with a lot of guidance.

If you definately can't use any 3rd party partitioning products, do you have
access to another Win NT 4 or later machine ? You can temporarily add the drive
to this machine and use Disk Administrator to set up at least some of your
partitions before you begin the install process.

The only other option is to use the ATAPI.SYS driver from Service Pack 4+, this
will assist NT setup by allowing it to see the full extent of the drive, so when
you make the extended partition it winds up being the WHOLE HDD, not just the
first 7.8GB.

Calvin.
