installing old hardrive (from laptop) to new pc

i have a new pc which already has a ssd installled running on windows 10, i have another hardrive from my previous laptop which was running windows 7 i wanna install it into my new pc but idk what to do. All ive done is connect the laptop hardrive to power supply and motherboard

if you connected the laptop SSD to a SATA power cable, and connected it to a SATA port with a SATA data cable, then it should at least show up in Disk Manager. I highly recommend (after saving the data to a backup drive) that you delete all partitions on the laptop SSD, repartition it as a single partition, and format it as NTFS. It will then be ready for use.

Canned Grounding Rant-
shut down system and remove side panel. with the power cable plugged into the PSU touch a bare unpainted metal area of the case. (my favorite spot is an unpainted screw securing the PSU) once you have grounded yourself you can unplug the computers power cable from the PSU and can touch the system.
if you move your feet, or shuffle in your chair, plug in the cord, reground yourself and unplug again.

with the new and old drive hooked up you can boot the system
enter the bios (see motherboard manual for trigger key - usually Del, F2, F10, or F12)
verify the boot settings and that the original drive is set to be the first bootable device
save and exit the BIOS
allow system to boot
once running you may need to import the foreign disk to your windows (if windows sees the drive skip down to *). from a run dialog/command prompt type diskmgmt.msc to open disk manager. Windows 8,10: press Win+X and click disk manager
open disk manager and import the disk.
*you can now manipulate the files on the newly imported disk, format the drive or leave it as is.

It does show up in disk manager but i wanna be able to retreive some of the files from the old hardrive to move to the new one. As far as i can tell i cant see any files from my old hardrive in my desktop

Have you looked in Explorer? From what I'm hearing, you don't have any backup files?
