I inherited an IBM eserver 225 from a friend. This friend asked me to delete all the information on the hard drives and then I could do whatever I wanted with the hardware. the computer had sco unix loaded on it and I used the DBAN program to wipe the hard drive (raid1 I think).

I am now trying to install a new OS either windows xp or ubuntu but my install disks fail to find the hard drives. I'm sure in the wipe process I must have deleted a driver or something but for the life of me I cannot find what it needs in order to be reinstalled. any suggestions?

Go to support page for that server, you need to download SCSI drivers, put them on a floppy, and press <F6> during Windows install. Yes, you will need a working floppy drive, or very advanced skills in mastering custom Windows images.

Here are supported OSs: http://www-01.ibm.com/common/ssi/rep_ca/7/897/ENUS104-007/index.html#Software

As for Ubuntu/Linux/Sco: There should be special distro available for that server. Most probably the required drivers are not compiler into current Linux kernel.

But - do you really want to mess with 10+ years old hardware? It is not going to reach 120fps on any modern game, memory upgrades are expensive, same for disk drives..
