I bought a new SSD and changed my whole system except the HDD. I have Windows 7 on my HDD. I want to install Windows 10 to my SSD but it's seems a bit complicated. I was planning on starting the Windows 10 setup, select the SSD for Windows 10 and just format the partition (on my HDD) on which the Windows 7 is installed.

Now from what I read I have to unplug my HDD then install the OS to my SSD then shut the PC and plug the HDD back. After that I guess I have to format all the partitions on my HDD. I have three part. on my HDD and two of them (the other part. is the OS one) contain valuable files and I don't have any external hard drives to which I can move my files. Do I have to format all the partitions after installing new OS to my SSD or can I just format the Win7 partition? Thank you.

Solution
Install the OS with only the SSD connected
Later, reconnect the HDD
Either copy off all your critical data and wipe the whole HDD
or
just format the Windows partition. Be VERY sure there is nothing in that partition you wish to keep.
