Hi

I have a IBM x235 Server with a ServeRAID-6i controller, 1x70GB 15k drive and 3x70GB 10k Drives

I have set up the 10k Drives in a RAID 5 and i am now trying to install the OS on the 15k My problem is that i have to put the 15k drive into a RAID0 otherwise it isnt detected in windows setup (I am using Drivers from a Stiffy Drive) but it is detected when i have it in a RAID but when i try to install to it setup gives me an error "The disk does not contain a windows-compatible partition" I have tried deleting & creating new Partitions in setup and in Hirens, I have also tried removing the 10k drives to install but i get the same error

Any Help is greatly appreciated

Kind Regards
Chris

Solution
It appears the RAID card you have, wont offer Bypass feature.
The best thing you can do is set the 70GB as BIG or SPAN mode.
You will able to use it as single drive, if you move it to other system.
If you only have 1 drive (70GB 15K) then how are you putting it into a raid0? I think you leave the 15K drive out of any raid group and install the OS to it. Once the OS is installed you should be able to install the proper raid drivers, and then should be able to see the raid drive(made up of the 3 10K drives). You shouldn't have to load any raid drivers during the OS install since the OS isn't going onto a raid drive.

The problem is if i dont add the 15k drive into a RAID the setup doesn't detect any of the drives, but when it is in a RAID the setup does find the 2 Logical Drives and will let me install to the RAID 5 but not the RAID 0.

I cannot see an option to leave the drive independant while being detectable and the only only solution i can see is to add it to a RAID - I have no options during the configuration apart from size.

The Front of the server has 6 Drive slots which is connected to one channel on the MB unfortunately i dont have the cables to connect the Drive to the Second Channel.

I can't set the 15k drive to SPAN mode even if I add a second drive to the RAID

I'm considering putting in a second 15k Drive and configuring a RAID 1, Sadly my second server wouldn't have redundancy on its data drive until I get more drive bays

Will let you know what happens
