i'm in the middle of building my new pc (putting in the parts now) and i plan to do a clean install on my OS drive which is a 500gb, the drive i use for storage currently is a 1tb hd, the storage drive is currently filled with 900gb of data.

my question is if i do a clean reinstall of win 7 on my 500gb os drive can i then just connect the old storage drive into the sata cable and will it keep all the data that is currently on it?

from what i'm reading in the motherboard manual on the asus z68 pro it says it uses a ahci standard for it's sata hard drives and i curently use i think an ide profile for my sata hard drives on this current pc which is pretty old, i am not sure if changing from ide to sata or ahci would effect the data on my drive.

i cannot lose this data, it's like tons of countless hours of editing on this storage drive and i'm crapping my pants afraid i could lose all the data if i reinstall it on the new pc.
