I purchased a SSD for my laptop and installed it. Therefore the SSD is blank with no OS on it. So I need to install 7 but it's an upgrade. So you see my dilemma. Do you think this will work?

1.) Partition my 120GB SSD as partition#1 40GB, partition#2 40GB, leave rest unpartitioned
2.) Install XP on partition #2
3.) Install 7 upgrade on partition#1 which will see XP on partition #2
4.) Once install is over delete partition#2 and recreate partition#2 as 80GB

Solution
I would recommend to just install xp on the same partition you will be installing windows 7 and then just install windows 7 over that if you plan on deleting your xp partition anyways.

You will still have the option for a clean install with this route. Which I would choose over the "upgrade" path.
