Hi all,
Recently purchased a new cpu/mobo/ram and attempted to install ltsc using an image i have on a flash drive.

I was unsuccessful after 20+ attempts where the installation would freeze. Twice the installation worked but it would never get past the bios splash screen.

As a last resort i created a win 10 image from the media creation tool, install was successful and finally booted into windows.

Truthfully i didnt know now with new hardware you had to reinstall windows. Is there something im missing as to why i cant use ltsb right away?

Thanks

How old is the LTSB (Long Term Servicing Branch) media you were trying to use?

LTSB is in no way static as far as the baseline code for it following along with all of Windows 10. You will not be allowed to use ancient install media forever.

Rogue Leader is correct as well, and the edition that installs is dependent on the license key used, not the installation media. The Windows 10 installation media (and, in fact, the Windows 10 installation itself) has the components for all editions. It is the license key used to activate that determines the components that are activated based on the edition associated with that key.

Since you say you have a brand new machine (motherboard, in particular) you need a license key to go with that.

Wow great comments in here thanks.

I am using an older version which i have not renewed the licence for.

If i am understanding correctly. The licence is tied to the ltsb/ltsc and without renewing it, i wont even be able to install/boot to windows?

It might install, but won't be licensed.
Win 10 Enterprise is absolutely not 'free'.

Being an 'older version' may have impacts on this install. What specific issues are you seeing during the install.

By the way, I retract my earlier statement about being able to use regular install media to install LTSB, but not about LTSB's base code evolving as Windows 10 does over time.

This article on How-To Geek, Windows 10 Without the Cruft: Windows 10 LTSB (Long Term Servicing Branch), Explained, makes clear how sui generis LTSB is as far as having dedicated installation media and a very limited audience (not including home or small business users, who virtually never have volume licensing agreements).
