Installing win10 on the Samsung 960 evo nvme ssd

Hi, I've read and heard that installing windows 10 on an nvme ssd can be abit of a heckle.. But lately I've seen posts at the forum that it should be plug and play, is that the current state of it? Is it really become plug and play?

Will bios detect the disc right away?

my motherboard is the: Asus z370e rog strix

Also, I'm not having any problems my self so far, as I've just ordered the ssd, but would be nice to be fit for fight if it truely comes with som troubles installing it..

NVMe SSDs do not appear within the BIOS until Windows creates the system partition with the EFI Boot Sector.

Windows 10 installation on NVME is pretty easy. May need to alter some settings in BIOS (depending on default values).
With windows 7 on NVME - this requires quite an effort though.

This simply is not true. You're talking here about boot order in pure UEFI mode. All devices still are detectable.

Can you tell me what to do at first boot in bios?

A simple explanation

Boot from windows 10 installation media and install windows. Have only m.2 ssd installed, disconnect all other HDDs/SSDs before install.
Ask for help only after you encounter any problems. Generally - there should not be any.

Hi, windows installed with no issues. Ethernet on the other hand turned out to be an issue. It's like it doesnt detect any cable, and it's a brand new board.. any simple solutions or could the ethernet port simply be broken?

You have to download the ethernet driver from the mobo site (along with chipset, storage, and sound drivers) from a working pc to usb stick and install them.

Figured it out eventually

Now I can't seem to get the Wifi driver to install for the z370e strix board...

Why? Does it give you any error, when you try to install it?

BTW - before any other drivers you have to install Intel chipset drivers first.

It appeared to be the bios settings. Wifi driver was set to disabled in Bios. So now it all works
