Question Installing Win7 Ultimate on a VM.

Morning All,

I am installing W7 Ultimate in a Virtual Machine within W11P. I currently have an ISO for W7 in a folder on my W11 desktop. Do I move the ISO to the empty VM and THEN run setup from there, or do I run setup from my W11 desktop?

I am so confused!

What VM tool are you using?

You follow their instructions.

Unless someone has a reason for me to use something else, I plan on using Hyper-V.

I use VirtualBox.

I don't use Hyper-V, because it doesn't pass audio out to the host.

SO, since you are experience with it: Do I put the Win7 ISO in the VirtualBox VM and then run set up or do I run set up from Win11 and target the installation to the VM?

Neither.

You create the VM and its associated VHD.
You start it...it will see that there is no OS.
You then navigate to where the ISO file is, and say "Use that one".

It will then start the OS install.

This is where you navigate to there the ISO is.

Oh, for anyone who reads this far: VirtualBox is an Oracle program. It is available as a free download for most any operating system!

And a lot of things on utube are absolute misguiding crap.

Just have to determine which is which, before your system gets borked.
