I replaced a motherboard in an Acer ES1-531-P2B3 laptop. When I go to activate the previous Windows 10 key, it does not authenticate. I contacted Microsoft and they said the key is stored in the bios and the original key would not work. Microsoft told me the license key I found using Jellybean was just a default key. The motherboard was purchased new on eBay. I ran the Acer support software and it showed me a different serial number and SNID as though it’s attached to another laptop. Is it possible to use the old key? Any ideas on what I can do to get this to work? Thanks.

A laptop with a preinstalled OS and its license is one of the few instances where it cannot be trivially ported to new hardware.

The only entities that can fix this are Microsoft and Acer.
Why did you replace the motherboard?
