Hi, I have a linux ubuntu PC and want to switch to Windows 8.1. I have the installation disc with the product key. I put the disc in and go to the location and try clicking setup.exe and it brings up a black screen with videos on it. I know what the windows setup window looks like and it doesnt pop up in any way. I didnt know what to do as Ive never used linux before, so I came to a place with people more advanced than me.

Put your CD into the PC, then reboot and set the boot from CD/DVD in the BIOS. Would you like to have Ubuntu in your computer at the same time (Dual boot)? If the answer is not, you only have to install windows. In the other case, you have to desactivate fast boot in windows and recover the grub.

You have to boot directly from the Windows install disk.

Thanks for the quick answer, but I might need some help on that. Don't know how to do that on Linux, like I said I've used Windows all my life and basically know nothing on Linux. Do you think you could make a detailed step-by-step list on how to do that. Thanks for the help, it is very appreciated.

probably you will need to set the computer/BIOS to boot from DVDROM first. Can do this via BIOS or the boot device menu at startup.

after booting windows installation disk: when you get to the installation/partitioning menu first delete all ubuntu partitions, then click "new". proceed with installation.
