Installing windows xp over windows 7

Hi

I have just bought a sony vaio vpcej1z1e/w it comes with windows 7 installed and I actually bought the full widows 7 package problem now tho is I work on Sage 200 and didnt realise at the time but as my sage software is older than windows 7 it wont install on it and I need to take the laptop back to xp.. I have the xp disk but to be honest have no idea what i'm doing i've looked for xp drivers for my laptop on sony and am coming up blank?????

Before you remove Win 7 and go to XP, you might want to check to see if an update is available for Sage 200 to allow it to run on Win 7. Check here:

BTW, have you actually tried to install the software? Also, what version of Windows 7 are you using?

Additionally, Have you tried to install using the "Compatability" mode. Right cleat the installation program and select run in compatability mode and select XP (also has selection for SP #).

If selecting compatability mode does not work then I'm quessing that you have the 64 bit version of windows 7 and your sage 200 program has some 16 bit code. In this case.

I Had this problem with running dos in win 7 64 Bit (Ran Fin in 32 bit), so I down loaded a program called DosBOX. There may be a "free program" that does the same thing for use that do not own the HIGHER win 7 versions - ie Virtual Win XP is NOT free for Home premium.

One thing I also did for a laptop was to buy a 2nd HDD and depending on what I was doing I just swapped the HDD's out. Also You may have the option (if yours is the 64 Bit) is to go with the 32 Bit windows 7. If your laptop only has 4 Gigs of ram this may be a better method than going with XP (Not if only 4 gigs you will lose some ram as 32 bit is limited to 4 GIGs counting Ram plus GPU memory). If more than 4 gigs, you would lose all ram above 4 gigs.
