Installing windows xp

I'm trying to install windows xp sp2 even xp sp3 but every time i try i get a blue sceen saying "windows shut down to stop any harm to the system" and follows a messaeg saying problem with FILE:NTRS.SYS or PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

Can you give more detail ? Are you trying to format your hard disk ?
In which stage the blue screen and message appear ?
