Installing XP Home from boot CD aborts spontaneously

I am attempting to install XP Home to my C drive directly from the boot CD drive. (the drive is set in BIOS). When booting, the drive lights and a couple of screens appear on my display then, the drive goes quiet and the light disappears and nothing else happens. WIndows neither installs nor does the install CD spin. What am I doing wrong and how can I get the install CD (I am the licensed owner of XP Home)mto install windows and re format the C drive (Old copy of WIN XP Home is on the CD drive now).

Are you looking to overwrite the existing XP on the "C" drive? (I don't think you meant the CD drive); and WHY??

Sometimes install discs go bad (almost always a dye problem). Check your "new" XP CD on a friends' machine to see if it's okay. Get back to us.
