Hi there, recently my PC has started shutting down instantly a few minutes after starting to play any video games (usually shortly after the fans have kicked in). I have checked the error logs and found that every time it happens there is an Event ID 41 error generated and the source is Kernel-Power.... I don't know much about these things but from some googling it seems like the power supply might be failing? Any advice would be appreciated! Also, I first though it was the CPU overheating so I purchased a new cooler for that which did not solve the problem, however the CPU is definitely not getting too hot now! The specs in question are and i7-3770, GTX 680, and a 650W PSU. Please let me know if you need any more details! Thanks, Thomas.

Hi guys, thanks for all your responses! The PSU in question is a Corsair CX750 which came with the PC, it's about 5 or 6 years old... not really sure what the lifespan of a PSU is!!

Thanks, Thomas.

The lifespan of a PSU can vary greatly depending on the PSU's design quality, component quality, operating temperature, load, etc. Better quality PSUs may last 10+ years while lower quality one will frequently die days after the warranty has ended, if not sooner for off-brand PSUs where warranty service is often impossible.

Most of my own PSUs have lasted 10+ years, albeit with an output capacitors replacement around the 3-5 years mark to swap Chinese/generic brand caps with higher performance Panasonic/Rubycon/Nichicon ones.
