How can I cheaply insulate the noise made by my fans? I have a fan in my additional cooling space, a systems exhaust and a CPU fan and the result is a wee bit of noise. How could I limit this noise?

Obtain small rubber washers from a hardware store, place them between the case and the fan
on the mounting screws and it will reduce the noise from any vibration.
The washers don't have to be thick.

Would that work with the CPU fan? I think it's the CPU fan that makes the most noise. Don't want to replace it tho cause a bit skint.

I dropped the CPU temp 1.5ºc by raising my fan approx. 5cm above the hs.
You probably already know that some fans blow in a funnel shaped pattern so by raising the
fan on my MCX-462, it made the air focus more to the center of the hs. I am using a Ultra
high speed 80mm Sunon instead of the Delta that came on it. I have it fastened to a rheostat
so I was able to turn it down even quieter. I used rubber washers to raise the fan so it also
dampened the vibration. Pretty "cool".

I had the same problem with sound. I have 5 case fans plus the heatsink fan. I put rubber grommets between the heatsink and its fan. You can get rubber grommets at Radio Shack for about $1.50. The grommets completely eliminated the whining sound that I was experiencing.

And to insulate the noise caused by the fans I spray mounted mouse pads to the bottom and top of my case. I got the cheap mouse pads for $1 each. I also sprayed rubber undercoating on my case side panels. You can read about it more if you click on my name and go to the show user's posts. The post on the bottom has all the info. Hope this helps!

I have some of that foam with the silver cover on it. The kind you put down the back of radiators so they move hear away from your walls and into the room. Would this be suitable for insulation or would it cause heat issues? It's about 4mm thick foam wise then has a thin layer of shiny tin foil like coating.
