Integrated Card running instead of GTX 560M

I have been having a problem with my Geforce 1.5gb GTX 560M laptop card not running for games (or just about anything). The integrated card has been being used instead (I call tell because TERA and GW2 auto detect lowest possible setting, and i get a framerate of like <15 even when i run with those low settings.

I have tried going into the nvidia control panel and modifying the global and program settings to use the high performance card, and adjusted the power settings (literally i spent hours and hours in here).

I called customer support and I tried the 'Nvidia Inspector' and tried using their suggested settings, but it still doesn't work.

In my device manager both graphics cards are recognized and enabled. When i disable the integrated one, the screen blanks out, and after restart it didnt default to the nvidia card.... just some unknown 'monitor' setting with super poor resolution.

At every step i was running multiple different GPU %usage programs and it was flatlined at 0% the entire time.

I thought of somehow taking the graphics card out, and reinstalling the whole graphics card (hardware and software) but this is my first laptop and I have no idea what im doing.

I am pretty much at the end of my rope with this problem and i payed good money for this system last year for it to just underperform. If anyone has an idea what to do next that would be appreciated.

isthis an HP. This is a known issue with HP ones,google you model. Also, the GTX card will only kick in for directX games, even openGL games areforced to the intel chip.

I didnt know that about that chip type.

Its the Toshiba Version, And the game im trying to run is TERA - NA, which is a direct X game....

A question for you:
Have you disabled the on-board video in the BIOS yet?

Good though, I have tried to find it in the bios with no success and i talked to the nvidia support breifly and he said that it wont show up in the bios (dont ask me why it doesnt make sense to me). Even after i disabled the Integrated chip through device manager, the nvidia chip didnt take over

Since this is a Laptop we're talking about, it's about nVidia drivers failing to recognize Guild Wars 2 and TERA.

I had the same problem not so long ago.

You'll need this: http://www.techspot.com/downloads/5077-nvidia-inspector.html

You have to dig down on the specific executables and find TERA and GW2. After you found then, there's a value you have to change in order to tell the nVidia drivers to use the discrete card.

Then hit Apply and see what happens. The same for GW2.

In there you'll find a bazillion config for tweaking you game experience with the nVidia card, so use it to experiment a little. Also, Google is your best weapon in that regard, hehe.

Thanks for the awesome response, I tried the inspector after contacting Nvidia support and I really couldnt get it to work (Customer support told me the same thing as you), but I messed around with it even more and physically found a new driver and updated it, and I managed to FIX IT (i think).

For anyone else using this thread or having this problem the Nvidia control panel has a way that you can have the GPU functionality show up in your quick-access bar (helps with troubleshooting which applications are running on the card or not)
