I recently acquired a UMID MBook SE. Problem is, the CPU is only 1.6 Ghz. The CPU is a Intel Atom Z530 PBGA441 Socket at 1.6 Ghz. I was wondering if i could de-solder the current CPU and swap it with a Intel Atom Z550 which is 2.0 Ghz Single Core same socket, and generally everything else is the same. I checked intel ark for the comparison of the two, they are really the same except they are slightly different in terms of power consumption, but a mobile unit most likely can handle the difference. Or would i just be better off doing a software overclocking with setfsb and have it run on start up, Windows 7 btw.

NO!. De-soldering requires special equipment, re-soldering requires even more special equipment. Go with what you have.

Mobile devices are built with very tight thermal and power envelopes, any attempt to mess with them, even by trying to overclock, is likely to run into power or heat problems, or both 🙁

400 Mhz may be a rather significant change. The cooling tdp is not really different either, and the bios may be fine with a new cpu as umid uses the same bios for all their mbooks and they changed the cpu three times with no bios change as i recollect. But i probably will just forget this idea.
