integrated graphics card does anything for games

Solution
integrated graphics is a chip in the motherboard, not the cpu, except amd apus.they arent generally good for gaming so a dedicated gpu is needed to improve your gaming experience.
So if using an amd APU where do you plug in the monitor, onto the chip?! No it's the motherboard.

What you're saying is that if I swapped my i5 4670k for a Xeon, I'd retain integrated graphics because it's intel and part of the motherboard..

what are you smoking???of course its the motherboard, but in an apu its tied to the cpu.and why, even if your motherboard supported it would you swap an i5 for a xeon? you seem to be the poster boy for the saying "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing". very little in your case it seems.
