Integrated Graphics Not Working, But Both Motherboard and CPU Support Them

Hi All,

Love the forum by the way. And I wasn't sure where to post this, but it's essentially a graphics problem. I have built two new systems, and I want to run both off integrated graphics. Both systems have an i3-6100 CPU, which is meant to have Intel HD 530 Graphics.

The motherboards I am using are, a Gigabyte H110M-S2H and an Asus Maximus Ranger VIII, both support integrated graphics. However neither will connect to my display, even though both systems turn on.

I am currently trying to connect via HDMI, both motherboards support DVI and VGA. It is worth trying those connections? But mainly, how do I "install" or get Intel HD 530 to "wake up" and connect to my monitor?

So far I've tried resetting the CMOS on both boards, but that hasn't worked. Any ideas?

I've never built a system to run off integrated graphics before so this is all new to me, in the past I've always installed a GPU and haven't had any display issues.

Could be a RAM issue, what's your setup?

I currently have Crucial 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 2133MHz in both systems. I'm pretty sure both are installed properly. The maximus hasnt displayed any memory errors on the Q Code.

You shouldn't need to use DVI or VGA, DVI and HDMI are the same after all (for video). It would be pretty silly if you had to "activate" the integrated graphics through BIOS because that means you'd need a graphics card just to get it going.

As it happens I'm in the same pickle, only reversed. My integrated works but can't get the card working 😛

You could try a single stick of RAM in every slot but I dunno, sounds like something else. Is there an on board microphone on the mobo(s)?

Hi, you could try reset the CMOS by taking out the battery (while the system is off) and wait 5 mins before putting it back. Then going to the BIOS and set graphics mode to Auto, it should be by default. Plug in the HDMI cable to the mobo's HDMI port, you could try DVI too if you want.

He already reset the CMOS. Also, it's pretty hard to change the BIOS settings if it's not posting (I assume that's the case since there is no graphics card installed, i.e if the integrated isn't working there is no picture right?)

Yes I meant it wouldnt hurt to try again. You could also borrow a GPU and set it if possible.

To add, maybe start with the lowest resolution first for your monitor/TV then go higher to see which works. It's odd that 2 mobos cant output via iGPU.

Thanks for the responses i will try resetting the bios again.

And will see if i can lower the resolution. Will also give the ram a go. As for a mothetboard mic, i have one plugged in, on both boards, but no unusual beeping sounds are made when i turn each system on.

I could get hold of a gpu and try that as well, but i would prefer to not have to install a gpu into every system i build which i plan to run on integrated graphics, just to change the settings. But PC building is always a struggle anyway, another step wouldnt make a difference

That should certainly not be necessary. A system should absolutely not need a dedicated GPU if it's got integrated graphics. As I said, my own rig runs just fine on the integrated, it's getting the GPU to work that is the hassle haha. We could just switch "problems" you and I !

Your mobo is beefier but my cpu counts around yours in circles ;p

I also happened to get mine working. Perhaps it's the same for you but I had to change the BIOS and you can't get there right?

I have solved the problem. Lokhe_ and dfk thank you for your responses. I bought some VGA cables which arrived yesterday. I plugged them in and voila! The system works. However, after downloading the intel HD 530 drivers I am still unable to connect via HDMI, and as the Maximus Ranger does not have a VGA port; I have to use HDMI for that build.

Any solutions on how I can configure the intel HD graphics on the gigabyte H110M-s2h system to run on HDMI and not just VGA?

Any further help would be appreciated
