Hope you all had a good Christmas or other holiday!

I have a client who has a fairly old computer, likely 6 years old, it's a HP Pavillion Slimline S5117c Desktop. It has integrated graphics with a VGA hookup. Recently, everything has turned green on all of the three different monitors I attached it to, I've also tried other VGA cables so unfortunately the onboard graphics seem to be dying.

The specs say the motherboard, "supports PCI Express x16 graphics cards." I don't know if it's PCI Express 1.0, 1.1, or 2.0. I think it's 2.0 but I'm really not certain. I can't find specifics in any of the documentation available online for the computer.

Assuming it's 2.0, I think a 1gb card would be more than adequate as all the computer does is handle payment processing at the front of the store.

This is the card I'm thinking about purchasing: https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Profile-PCI-Express-R6450-MD1GD3-LP/dp/B004X6ABTM/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1482963799&sr=8-5&keywords=PCI+Express+x16+graphics+cards

I'd appreciate any advice this community could provide. I think he would be better off with a new computer but that doesn't seem likely at this point. I feel like if the onboard graphics are failing that may point to a deeper problem inside the motherboard, or it may be a canary in the coal mine so to speak, warning that motherboard failure is imminent.

Anyways, the client would like to try installing a separate graphics card first and he wants to order one tomorrow morning so again, all advice is appreciated. Sorry for the short notice, thanks in advance.

Solution
Any graphics card will work with pci 1.0 or higher. It's just they may not be used to their maximum potential as bandwidth may be limited.

You're not gaming, nothing serious. Anything will work.
