Integrated Graphics Question

So I have a computer with integrated graphics and recently the video port has stopped working. I was wondering if I plug in a gpu, and plug in the monitor through that, will it fix the problem. Additionally, will plugging in a gpu take the place of the integrated graphics? The integrated graphics I have is a Radeon 9100 and it cannot keep up with anything I want to do. Also, the only slot I have is a PCI 5 volt. If you know any video cards that would work with this that'd be amazing. Thanks!

It should work. If you plug in a gpu the display should be routed through the gpu automatically. What do intend to do with the computer?

this an agp slot motherboard? what motherboard do you have...... or was this a pre-built system and if so by whom??? can you give us specs on the hardware in it?

I want to be able to surf the web basically so nothing too intense. But there's something faulty with the integrated graphics so I can't do that anymore. Thanks for the quick reply!

It's definitely not the monitor. I've connected a couple other computers just to be sure and they all display perfectly through the monitor. The reason I'm pretty certain it's the graphics is that for a while before it finally crapped out, the screen would sometimes randomly lose signal to the computer at which point I checked all connections and tried restarting the computer. Sometimes the restart worked other times the signal to the screen would not come back for a couple days. In response to your agp question, no it does not have an agp slot but only a pci 5volt. I have neither. Sorry I'm not forthcoming with abundant information. This is an old computer and I'm not sure what motherboard I have. I do know however that there is neither an agp nor a pcie slot. Like I've said before, there is only a pci 5volt slot which was previously occupied by a dialup card thingy.

this thing must be ancient. i always thought agp and pcie were the only kinds of non integrated video cards. well,i was wrong. there are also pci expressx1,and pci slots. it sounds like you have a pci slot which is the slowest of the lot.so there were cards made for it but as to finding one these days who knows. here is a link that explains this in simple terms.
