Integrated Memory Controller

I was looking at a CPU on Newegg and it showed "integrated Memory Controller" speeds. I guess I'm confused as to what the purpose of this is. Any explanation would be great. Thanks!

Today's CPU's have the memory/ram controller on the die (CPU itself), basically they are showing the supported ram speed for the CPU same as they list it for motherboards.

In the past the memory controller was on the motherboard. For the past few generations of CPUs from both AMD and Intel the controller has been moved to the CPU itself. This has many benefits such as reducing latency.

New CPUs especially from Intel can be more sensitive to voltage and speed than when the controller was on the motherboard. The AMD controller is generally not as sensitive.

PPL buy new i5/i7(1600 MHz controller) and then buy some 1866-2600 MHz ram...

Then freak out(on newegg feedback) on the ram's manufacturer that their crap ram only runs at 1600 MHz!

Ram manufacturer... Ahhhhh!!! you have to overclock the ram in XMP!! And even then, your still at the mercury of your CPU's controller being able to handle the OC.

That explains why I was confused. I always assumed it was still on the motherboard. LOL. Thanks for the Replies!
