because of my mobo's fsb limit at 166mhz i just got a 2.4A SL6GS processor for its high multiplier.
i thought maybe the new chip (it is a C1 stepping, and in fact newer than the SL6EF and SL6RZ 2.4Bs that people are overclocking so easily with) would do quite well considering the new build
HOWEVER, no such luck. i can't get it past 120 x 24 = 2880 at 1.75V on water. that's a pretty crappy overclock considering the people who are getting their 2.4Bs to 3.2 on stock voltages. extra voltage didn't help my overclock, so i'm sticking with 1.75
anyway i wanted to report that in case someone else finds a good deal on a 2.4A SL6GS and wants to try the same thing i did. don't expect much =(
by the way, it was a week 45 chip

hey, that is a bad o/c for water, since you can run that 2.4a at 2.88 on air----without v mods!!! makes me a little leary going to water now myself.....i think i'll keep it on air (32c. idle, 44c. on games)for a bit longer.....thx for the post!!!!!

What motherboard are you using? how cold is the water?

Did you lock the PCI/APG/memory speed?

Is the chipset getting too hot?

Lots of other things that can cause a poor overclock.

Im over 4Ghz with my P4, but I have the cooling to do so.
