Intel 2011 platform - x79 and NMVe

I've got a buid based on Gigabyte X79-UD3. Does x79 capable of using modern NVMe drives via PCIe x4 adapters and is it possible to boot from such drive om x79?

Gigabyte didn't start supporting NVMe storage until Intel Series 9 Chipset motherboards, such as Z97. You would need a modified third party BIOS that supports NVMe.
