Intel 4670k Overclocking: Base Clock Frequency or Multiplier?

I am using the MSI Z87-G45 as the motherboard and am planning to overclock to 4.2-4.5 GHz. Should I just overclock by increasing the multiplier to 42-45? If so, is the effect any different from increasing the base clock frequency?

Most guides simply use the multiplier

Use the multiplier only. Increasing BClk also increases PCIe bus, memory, SATA, etc. You don't want that!
