Hello, thanks to anyone who may respond.

I have an Intel 4709-K processor & a Z97 Extreme 3 mobo.

Lately I've been trying to play games such as Battlefield: Hardline and my CPU keeps reaching the shut-off threshold temperature, somewhere around 100C. I reapplied brand new thermal paste and ensured the processor was seated correctly. This is a relatively recent problem, I used to be able to play BF: Hardline for hours without issues.

I do not know what is going on or what is causing it. I am suspect of the Z97 auto-tuning potentially but i am not versed enough in these things to know if it is. I saw some other threads regarding voltages causing heat issues and my 4790-K is running

CPU Input Volt. - 1.74 - 1.819V
Vcore Volt. 1.250

Any input as to what is going on or may be causing my CPU to reach the shut-off threshold all of a sudden would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you

Your input voltage and vcore are too high.

What BIOS version are you using? I remember ASRock released some mobos with bad BIOS some moths ago. I suggest you an update to the latest version and a reset to its default values. Updating your BIOS should also reset it, but I always prefere a manual clear CMOS.

According to ASRock tha latest BIOS is v 1.70.

Try and then let me know if it works 😉

P.S: the stock Intel cooler is quite good for an i5, buut just inadequate for an i7. Are you using it?

Yes I am. I will try looking up what the standard input and vcore voltages are and setting it manually, as well as purchase a new cooler.

Yes I am using the stock cooler. I will try and search for the stand input voltages and vcore are and manually set them. Perhaps I will try disabling boost as well until I can buy a better cooler?

Hmm.. that didn't seem to do much. I am still getting seemingly super high voltages. CPU Input voltage is hitting 1.8v and vcore is still at 1.25v along with crazy hot temperatures of 85-95C.

Anyone know what voltages I could manually set these to that would be stable and cease this overheating issue?

Thank you

The process is just like OC. Except here you are trying to undervolt

basiqally its a trial and error method. Try putting vcore to 1.21 and lower keep going until system runs into instability. then go back to the last stable vcore.

Get an aftermarket cooler, as suggested, and get your UEFI to run your cpu at stock voltages. Once you get this under control, Turbo shouldn't give you any trouble. Do you have good air exchange in your case? Is it super hot where your computer is? I live in a very warm place, I use a Nh-d14 on my 4790k, I run stock voltages with turbo on, which works flawlessly, and my CPU rarely reaches past 60C.
