Hi, I have a question for you component guru's.

I just saw a deal for a Intel I7-4790K with a MSI Z97 Gaming 3 motherboard for 200$.

I currently have a AMD FX 8350 with a MSI 990FXA-GD80, I had for, oh, close to 6-7 years now I think. Its always been up to the tasks I put it trough, great CPU , but its getting a bit dated.

Anywho, you think its worth switching to the 4790K for 200$ or should I wait for a deal on a newer generation? (I'm not unfamiliar with OC)

Thanks!

I7 is pretty dated tho like almost 5-6 years and yet still they are overpriced.
I would personally wait, since the FX can still roll games at decent framerate (eg 40-60fps max 1080P).

Im still at 1150 socket due I had deals like, 30$ Asus maximus hero (Broken then repaired) and i5-4570 (Xeon E3-1225v3) deal for around 70$ (last year), which is pretty good here tho.

Im opting next year for Ryzen 3rd gen or older i7-6th or 7th gen.

Thanks for the input. I did some more searching and found a Ryzen 2700x for 180$ without motherboard, much more recent and I think a better deal over all and I do love my AMD. Although the 4790K is still a decent upgrade, you are probably right, I will just want/have to upgrade again not too far down the road. The 2700x should probably hold me for another 4+ years, don't you think?

I do mainly just use the PC for gaming and surfing, but sometimes I design 3D models for my 3D printer in Fusion 360, and it would be nice with some more processing power.

Edit: Then I'd need DDR4 RAM too right? Its not compatible with DDR3?

Maybe ill just wait and see what happens with the release. If rumors are correct, there should be a Ryzen 5 3600, which is speculated to go for about 200$, with equal performance to a 9700K when overclocked. Thats just insane for the price point. Or I'm just waay out of the game of PC building, been a while.
