Hello:
I have recently installed an Intel 520 480GB SSD in my computer.
I took the data migration option and all seemed to go well. I downloaded the software from www.intel.com. Installed the software and followed the wizard through the cloning operation. When cloning was finished I rebooted and all was ok. I then downloaded the Intel software toolbox, installed and followed the wizard. All went well. I then opened the toolbox and analyzed the disk and followed the suggestions which were returned at the end of the scan. The life span graph was displayed and all items were checked with green check mark.
All seemed ok, so I ran a CrystalDiskMark and was disappointed with the results. After reading in the forums, I rebooted the computer and accessed the BIOS and discovered that AHCI was not enabled. I made and saved the changes, and rebooted the computer. Again I ran CrystalDiskMark and the results were much closer to what I thought they should be. That was the end of a long day.
This morning I started the computer and went straight to the Intel software toolbox and tried to scan the drive. Upon opening the software, a window appeared on top of the software control panel, and stated that the drive was disconnected. The message also stated that S.M.A.R.T. had been disabled and that the software would not function without this item being enabled. How to enable S.M.A.R.T. seems to be the answer to my problem. I rebooted and entered the BIOS and was not able to find anything that indicated S.M.A.R.T. My motherboard is the Asus M4A89GTD PRO USB. (AmericanMegaTrends Ver: 3027.10/31/2011) How to enable this feature may help me with this problem. Help.
Under storage configuration:
SATA ports 1-4>AHCI>SSD
SATA ports 5-6>IDE>Optical Drives
Disconnected Drive? How to correct this? The computer works normally. Drive C. is displayed in My Computer. No problems other than the Intel software toolbox. The toolbox is necessary for monitoring the health of the SSD? Intel seems to think so. Oh yes, I tried live chat with Intel tech support and they were not helpful. Reinstall Windows was the response I got from Intel. Not helpful.
Thanks in advance for helpful information.
