Question Intel 530 GPU issues ( I think)

It seems my on board gpu is acting up ; or I think anyway . At first I thought it was my damaged HDMI cord so I switched to VGA . My monitor keeps going black then the image appears again . Is it the GPU ? The monitor is in great condition . I checked the power source , used the monitor with a different device etc. I was planning to swap to a bigger tower and put in a bigger GPU . I was hoping to study/learn some more before going at it with my main system . Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance

What's the make and Model number of your Motherboard ? Can you use a discrete GPU on your system, if there is a vacant PCI-e X16 slot, so that you can check where the problem lies.

Yea I have an older model one I could pop in . Never thought of that to be honest . Thanks . I'll get back with more info after work . Thanks
