I have a new 536ep modem which is recognised in Device Manager but the
drivers willnot load either from the CD or the ones within XP (which look the
same). Tried switching PCI slots etc but always back to the 'unable to
install' when trying to load the drivers. Any suggestions?

Hello

Well try downloading drivers for the website or just use a
different brand of modem

Hi,

I have two of these, on two different machines, one XP and the other W98se.
The drivers loaded just fine in both cases, eventually. I found that, in
XP, I had a problem installing the driver because the associated modem
software installed first, don't know why. But, when the modem driver
wouldn't install, I dis-installed the software, and then it seemed to do
just fine. Haven't tried reinstalling the software on the XP machine yet,
but the modem makes connection with Windows Update just fine. Never had any
problem with the W98 installation.

ISP tried to tell me that the driver was too old, as an explanation for what
later was obviously seen as their problem on the W98 machine. (Generally
people will be more concerned about resolving the problem of facing the
complainant than dealing properly with the complaint.) In the process I
kept looking for any sign of a site with the driver available but never
succeeded in finding one, so I'm still using the ones that came with the
adapters.

Good Luck,
Joe

Thanks - I connected to Update via broadband (this is someone else's PC!) and
ran update - it failed to load the drivers it downloaded so I started again -
took the modem out & re-installed it - XP then found it & installed it with
no problem - must have been the fit in the PCI slot (but it found it
before?!) - the joys of hardware!
