i recently purchased an intel 6205 wireless card (for desktop) but i haven't been able to get it to install the driver completely with my system. after doing some searching i've found a lot of similar issues with this card and very little in the way of solutions. since wireless cards aren't incredibly pricey, i'm leaning in the direction of replacing it with something else - now the question is: what to replace it with? i am content with the idea of the remote antenna of the intel and was thinking that i would try the intel 2200 series, but i wonder if it would be likely to cause a similar issue since it uses the same driver package, though i assume the chipset is completely different. if not this model, are there any other likely choices that are tried and true and generally bulletproof?

the main requirement is that the card be an internal pcie 1x card - it's the only accessible internal slot and i'm trying to a void using a usb adapter if possible, mainly because i don't want it sticking out (i actually had issues connecting with a netgear usb adapter too - the only card i've had working is an old linksys pci with a generic rt2500 driver) the following are the specs of my system, just in case anyone notices some sort of hardware conflict. oh yeah, don't laugh - it's old.

windows7 x64
xfx 680i lt motherboard
intel e6850 3ghz core2duo
2x xfx 8800gts 320mb video (sli)
4gb ddr2 800
creative audigy se pci (to connect some older creative digital speakers)
onboard sound and lan disabled
one open pcie 1x slot

Area you sure you mean 2200 those are old only run b and g. I think the new stuff has 7260 or something like that. It is strange intel normally has good drivers. Most devices use either atheros or broadcom chipset that are not intels. I have not had a driver problem for a windows based machine in many years..most the time its linux drivers that don't work.

yeah, i haven't had too much of a problem with windows drivers either, but ironically, it always seems to relate to wireless adapters when i do have an issue. previously i had been using a few older linksys pci wireless g adapters, and none of them are even supported by 7 or vista, so i had to find the generic ralink chip driver to use them, but they did work.

as far as the 2200 goes, it's an n card as far as i know: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100010074&IsNodeId=1&Description=intel%202200&name=Wireless%20Adapters&Order=BESTMATCH

i also expected intel to have a better driver compatibility than other companies - i'vev used encore and other branded adapters in the past and always had to go find a better driver because the shipping / correct driver didn't ever work. this makes me wonder whether there is some sort of hardware issue - maybe the non-intel motherboard chipsets?
