So currently I have a Intel core i5 2320 @3.0Ghz and along with that a Zotac GTX 1060 6gb . And as expected, the bottleneck is humongous in games like Assassin's Creed Origins and Forza Motorsport. The GPU Hardly reaches 60% usage while the CPU is maxed on all cores.

So I really need to upgrade my CPU. But I am confused. Was looking for a used i5 6500/6600 , but then saw the new i5 8400 which has 50% more cores and performance of almost last i7 . But sadly , there are no cheap motherboards for that , and Z370 Boards are of no use to me cause I wont be overclocking.

So what should I do? And when will cheap motherboards be available for i5 8400 ? I am really at a loss!

the new mobo's are expected in Q1 of next year.

It really depends on what you want. A capable system now, or something that will last few years high end gaming, and with an upgrade CPU down the line too.

I'd go with waiting got the 8400 and the B version mobo, and along with your 1060 will be a great match for 1080 Ultra@ 60hz. It depends on what res you play at how good the 1060 will be, but for 1080p it's excellent, along with a really good gaming chip that is the 8400.

The other two 6500/64600 although not too shabby, will start to suffer as games now will all start to utilise more cores/threads so the 8400 is a win there. Games like BF1, Destiny 2 make more use of cores, and that will only increase for games going forward.

Will it be absolutely foolish and stupid to pair the 8400 with the cheapest Z370 right now ?
