I'm looking at two rigs now.

This is the main difference: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Six Core on AMD A320 motherboard vs i5-9400F 2.9Ghz on Asus H310 motherboard, each with GTX1660 super 6gb graphics card, the former is 90 quid more.

Is it worth it?

Solution
While the 9400F is around 8-18% faster than the Ryzen 2600, it won't last as long should games continue to go up in thread count.
As a pure hex-core, it's already limited in some games.

I’d put a 3rd option. The 2600 with a better B450 motherboard. As above I see the i5’s 6 threads as very limiting, the 4 thread prior gen i5’s did not age well in recent years and it looks like the hex core/thread are going to go the same way.
I haven't found it yet. But If you were to choose out of these two, what would it be?

2600 hands down. The Intel cpu is 6 cores no hyperthreading. Which will probably be limited sooner rather than later. At least the AMD CPU you get 6 extra threads to hold you over. Plus the 2600 is cheap right now. As well as the fact your board should update for ryzen 3000 and 4000 CPUs. So when the 4000 series comes out you should be able to drop in a much more powerful chip and be set.
