Intel and Microsoft Muscling Into Tablets This Year

I could be wrong, but, IMO, Intel and Microsoft both missed the bus here. Intel's chips are too power hungry, and Windows is not as tablet friendly as Android.

I agree, remember xp tablet edition anyone?

OEMs are now shifting over to Intel and Microsoft powered devices after some "persuasion" from the two giants.
That's just sadly disappointing. I hope they get sued (again) for anti-competitive actions.

And they arent shipping a tablet already. Just think about all the customers apple is getting. And they are at least another year out

I beg to differ, Windows based tablets aren't as bad as people think. They're often far more upgradable like any laptop which far beyond that of any iPad and cheaper in the long run. Then there is the hybrids which is very nice, use them like a laptop when one wants to type then they fold around and can be used as a slate. I don't see no fancy over inflated macbook doing that plus I can put any thing under the sun I want like linux. Yes there are linux tablets out there.

What you only want Apple in the market? $$$

Uh, that's why Intel is making NEW chips. They just said they realized they're too power hungry. Did you read the article? As for Windows, I found Windows XP for a tablet fine, and Windows 7 even better, personally. The advantage of Android would be better battery life I imagine, but not necessarily better overall.

I don't believe Tablets are being aimed towards gaming...

INVENTORS - DO NOT TRUST INTEL
I invented a CPU cooler - 3 times better than best - better than water. Intel have major CPU cooling problems - "Intel's microprocessors were generating so much heat that they were melting" (iht.com) - try to talk to them - they send my communications to my competitor & will not talk to me.

Winners of major 'Corporate Social Responsibility' awardS!!!

Huh!!!!

When did RICO get repealed?"

INVENTORS - DO NOT TRUST INTEL!!!

BTW, I have the evidence - my competitor gave it to me.

BBTW, I am prepared to apologise to Intel if;
• They can show that the actions were those of a single individual in the company, acting outside corporate policy, and:
• They gain redress on my behalf.

Although playing a major role in it's facilitation, the power of the internet appears to have come as much a surprise to Intel as it has to the catholic church.

Inventors - help your fellow inventors - share your experiences with companies - good and bad.

"I invented a CPU cooler - 3 times better than best - better than water"

so..... you invented something so revolutionary and didn't patent it......

I just hoped Intel would finally port it's Windows system to ARM chips, then they'd have a super successor of Windows CE (or likes).

Yes, i read the article, and I try to keep up with the trends, and, from my understanding, ARM chips are becoming more potent while having TDW in the milliwatt range vs single digit watt range of Intel chips. While 1-2 watts is nice, it's not as nice as .5 watts.

OK, looks like I was off by a lot, but relatively, the argument is the same. 11 watts v2 2 watts.

I didn't say I did and I didn't say I didn't. It's not relevant to the subject.

You patent attorneys should be ashamed of yourselves.

Ever heard of 'Patented by Smith & Wesson?'

Personally, I am waiting for a flip-screen netbook with tegra-2 and Android.
Basically an Asus t91 with the features mentioned.

Intel should license the ARM patents and get into the market that way. It seem that ARM is licensed to any company that wants it. Microsoft big mistake has been to try to cram Windows OS into any device despite the fact that it was not originally design for it. I hope Intel does not make the same mistake. The other alternative is to build a new architecture from scratch to compete with the ARM arch.
