News Intel and SK hynix close NAND business deal: Intel gets $1.9 billion, SK hynix gets IP and employees

Maybe we can revive Optane now that Solidigm is under SK Hynix control
Is there any indication they got Optane IP? I thought it was explicitly omitted from the deal.

Two reasons why:
  • Maybe because 3D Xpoint IP is co-owned with Micron, who has no interest in selling its stake.
  • More likely, because 3D Xpoint was never profitable and faced challenging prospects against alternatives.

What I recall reading about Optane, when the sale of Intel's NAND business was announced, was that Intel would retain Optane and continue to support those products until the warranty runs out.

Also, not long after the deal was announced, the Intel-branded SSDs disappeared from ark.intel.com and showed up over on Solidigm.com. Optane didn't budge. What the announcement tells us is that everything that was already under the Solidigm umbrella is just getting integrated into SK Hynix.
