I can just imagine a popular Tesla mod to augment its crashy autopilot system involving duct-taping a couple of these on the front bumper.

Honestly, I can't believe they would enable autopilot with just a monocular RGB camera. That really was irresponsible, even if they told drivers it wasn't fit for fully-autonomous driving. The DoT should force them to permanently disable that feature, to avoid posing a hazard to other motorists.
